Chris Harrison has an Internet Map showing the density of internet connections between cities.
Harrison’s first map reminds me of the famous World at night map by NASA of 27 November 2000.
Not surprisingly, the greatest concentration of internet connections is roughly in the same places as the greatest concentration of light.

Jeremiah McNichols stopped working on his blog, Think In Pictures: Adventures In Visual Education, in September 2007 but its articles remain. I was especially intrigued by the information conveyed by the Range of Freedom map.

World map showing the source of ingredients in an ordinary loaf of bread. The original, from the San Jose Mercury News, seems to have disappeared. The Digital Roam website has preserved it.
